Nigerian Scammers Take Over Yahoo Personals

by Single Mom Dating on April 17, 2010

This is an update on Cole. Coles profile was ideal. Said he was a Christian man and had strong family values. He listed things he liked to do and what he desired in a mate. Looked like your typical profile. I did find it a bit alarming that he had only one photo up. So his first contact email to me was interesting. I had noticed he had a few mispelled words but I wasn’t going to judge a man by his spelling or grammar. but then we started this email tag back and forth and I noticed I only received messages form him when it was 4am my time. He never answered my questions about what he did for Easter or what he liked to do for fun, instead he was insistent on trying to connect via yahoo. Then I received an email the other day and I notice there are all sorts of grammar mistakes and he said things like “I am pleased to be knowing you” which is way to friggin formal for a supposed native Californian. Then he seals my suspicion when he says “I am currently working out of the country in Nigeria”. RED FLAG!

I reported him to Yahoo but they have not bothered to contact me and probably don’t care.

Then today I receive another similar message on a profile that had red flags all over it. First of all he had one photo of a Caucasian man and yet his profile says he is 5’3″ and black. Then his message is urging me to contact him through yahoo email. I blocked him immediately and then I canceled my subscription and deleted my account. I am sick of this BS and I will never use Yahoo again. There is no screening and they don’t take any reporting seriously.

Word of advice, do not use paid dating sites that are not going to bother following up with their customers when you report fraudulent behavior.

I’m going back to Okcupid and POF only.

OMG!! I had two contact me from YP. Both of them wanting me to send money to Nigeria about 6 weeks into the email relationship. Both widowers with one child and spelling and grammer errors here and there. No, I did not fall for their emergency money request. You’ve confirmed my suspicions!
