Online Dating During The Holidays

It’s that time of year again. Yea, you know…the holidays. Christmas is almost here and it is during the holidays that I tend to feel the most depressed about being alone. You can’t help but reflect how lonely you are. Going to Holiday parties and seeing all the couples together or shopping in the mall and seeing a couple walking hand in hand as they look at gift ideas for their loved ones. For me the big one is not having someone to wake up to on Christmas morning to say “Merry Christmas, hun” and then slipping them a special gift I picked out just for him in mind.

I still feel that 2010 is my year that I am going to meet someone special. Even during the holidays when I should be feeling more lonely than usual, I am filled with hope that next year’s holiday season will reflect something very different than what my Christmases have been for the past 4 years.

Now as far as online dating goes, I pretty much gave up on that. I deleted all of my online profiles or hid them. I have been able to easily overlook the fact that men have winked at me through Match.com and not feel the urgency to log in to see his profile. With money being a bit more tight during the holiday season, it just doesn’t seem worth it to me to sign up for another membership at this time. As much as I like match compared to other sites, it still requires a fee and right now its not fesible. So, I decided to log into myspace (yes, I am aware of bad mouthing myspace as far as a network to meet other singles since most of the people on myspace are creeps or sluts) but I decided to use the advanced search to browse profiles. I targetted the type of man I am looking for that doesn’t smoke, drink, has the same religious affiliation as me and lived within 20 miles of me. It came up with about 276 profiles. I skimmed past the thug looking guys or the profiles that featured a shirtless picture as their man photo (get a hint men, women think shirtless photos are annoying.) I saw about 5 profiles of men that I would actually love to sit down and talk with. But of those 5, I only wrote to two of them.  I have a stronger pull towards one of them but they are both decent men and I will be interested to find out if they are also interested in getting to know me. I took the first step so now the ball is in their courts.

If you are pinched for pennies this time of year but would still like to know if it is possible to meet decent people online, try using Okcupid.com, facebook (a friend of a friend can be handy) or; I can’t believe I am about to say this but, myspace. Just be picky when using myspace. Only contact people that you think do not act like whores on their profile. :)
